Tanzania brings East Africa's defining landscapes into one journey: the Serengeti migration, Ngorongoro's wildlife-filled caldera, Tarangire's elephants and baobabs, remote southern wilderness, and Zanzibar's Indian Ocean coast, connected through tailored northern, southern, walking, wildlife and beach routes.

Across the Serengeti, immense grasslands carry wildebeest and zebra around a seasonal circuit, while resident lions, cheetahs and leopards keep the plains compelling throughout the year. Wildlife movement and individual sightings can never be guaranteed.

Beyond the plains, Ngorongoro concentrates wildlife inside a collapsed volcano, Tarangire gathers elephants beside its river, and Nyerere offers quieter river country and permitted guided walks. Respectful community visits add context before Zanzibar's beaches and Stone Town.

The long dry season

Late June–October is the long dry season: wildlife gathers around water and thinner vegetation improves visibility. Northern Serengeti river crossings occur roughly July–October, alongside peak demand and rates, but migration movement, crossings and all wildlife sightings remain governed by nature and are not guaranteed.

November–May

The green season

November–May brings greener country, dramatic skies, migrant birds and newborn wildlife. January–February is the southern Serengeti's principal calving period; short rains usually arrive around November and longer rains around April–May. Herd locations, calving events and predator sightings follow natural conditions and are not guaranteed.

When is the best time for a Tanzania safari?

Late June to October for the northern Serengeti river crossings and easiest game viewing; January–February for the calving season and big cats on the southern plains; the green season (November–May) for fewer crowds, lush scenery and birding.

How many days do you need in Tanzania?

Seven to twelve days suits most journeys; allow five to seven nights for the northern circuit alone, and add three to four for a Zanzibar finish.
