THE OLDEST WAY TO TRAVEL

The wild,
on its own terms.

Most of Africa is seen through a windscreen. The oldest, deepest way to know it is not.

Step down from the vehicle and the bush changes entirely: you read the tracks, feel the ground and move at the speed the country was always meant to be travelled. Our expeditions on foot, on horseback and by camel take place in private conservancies and frontier lands where this kind of travel is allowed.

We match each expedition to your experience, and confirm what each activity needs before you travel.

02 / IN THE SADDLE

AN EXPEDITION DAY

Go slowly.

Each expedition has its own rhythm, but most days follow the light.

  1. DAWN

    Out with your guide.

A briefing, then out while it’s cool: on foot, in the saddle or beside the camels.

  2. MIDDAY

    Rest in the shade.

Lunch and a long pause while the heat passes, at camp or beneath a tree.

  3. EVENING

    Camp under the stars.

Arrive at the next camp as the light softens, with a fire and a meal waiting.

HOW YOU’LL TRAVEL

BEFORE YOU GO

Good questions.
Straight answers.

What makes it an expedition?

The way you travel. On foot, on horseback or by camel, the experience leads the route rather than the vehicle.

Do I need to be very fit?

Not for most walks, which last a couple of hours. Multi-day riding is for confident riders, and we’ll be honest about the fit.

Can we combine walking and riding?

Yes. Laikipia and the Mara conservancies suit both, so one journey can include each.

Can it be part of a wider safari?

Yes. Most expeditions weave into a longer journey with game drives and a comfortable base.

YOUR NEXT CHAPTER
