The long dry season

June to October brings clear highland air, firm roads and the classic dry-season conditions for Ngorongoro and Manyara. January and February form another excellent, often quieter dry spell; Karatu remains cool at altitude, especially before early crater departures.

November

The green season

Short rains around November and long rains from March to May turn farms and highland slopes vivid green, with fewer vehicles and softer rates. Roads can become heavier going, so Lake Eyasi, forest and crater plans should follow current access conditions.
