Nobu / Kenya
Tsavo West.
Red earth, red elephants, and a wilderness that runs to the horizon.
The Nobu perspective
Tsavo West,
at your pace.
Tsavo West is the greener, more volcanic half of Kenya's immense Tsavo ecosystem, where lava flows, wooded hills, springs and red-dusted elephant replace the eastern park's open plains. It combines dramatic geology with wildlife and coast-bound routing.
Mzima Springs brings clear, spring-fed pools and an underwater viewing chamber, while Shetani's lava and rugged ridges reveal the park's volcanic character. Game drives search riverine and woodland habitat rather than uninterrupted eastern horizons.
Ngulia protects black rhino within the wider park, and elephant still carry Tsavo's distinctive red dust. Access, sanctuary visits and viewing conditions depend on current park rules, while the route pairs naturally with the Indian Ocean coast.

Your dates, your route
Start with your preferred month. Your designer will help match the season, chosen stays and connections to your route, interests and preferred pace.
late June to October and January to February
The drier seasons
Late June to October and January to February are dry, drawing wildlife toward springs and remaining water while keeping tracks firmer. June to October is the longer dry season, generally offering easier viewing through thinner vegetation.
November–May
The green season
November to May brings short and long rains, vivid green growth, newborn wildlife and excellent birding with fewer vehicles. Dense vegetation can reduce visibility and widen animal movements, so every drive follows current local conditions.

Good questions. Straight answers.
Why are Tsavo's elephants red?
They bathe and dust themselves in the region's iron-rich red soil, which coats their skin ochre — the "red elephants" are a Tsavo signature, not a different species.
What's the difference between Tsavo East and Tsavo West?
Tsavo East is vast, flat, arid and open — elephant country on a grand scale; Tsavo West is hillier, greener and volcanic, with Mzima Springs, lava flows and a rhino sanctuary.
How many days do you need in Tsavo?
Two to three nights does one half justice; allow longer to combine East and West, given the distances involved.
Is Tsavo good for a bush-and-beach trip?
Ideally — Tsavo sits between Nairobi and the coast, making it the natural safari leg before continuing to Diani and the Indian Ocean.
