We usually design Hell's Gate as part of a Rift Valley stay rather than as a standalone destination. A night or two at Lake Naivasha gives time for the lake, Crescent Island and a relaxed cycling or walking day in the park, while still keeping the route efficient between Nairobi, Nakuru and the Mara. The result is a lighter, more varied Kenya journey: water, cliffs, plains game and open air before the bigger wildlife chapters begin.
Wildlife & landscapes
The drama is geological: towering cliffs, the Ol Njorowe Gorge, volcanic plugs (Fischer's Tower) and geothermal steam vents. Wildlife is plains game — zebra, giraffe, buffalo, antelope, baboon and good raptors/birdlife — without the big-cat density that elsewhere keeps you in a vehicle. The scenery famously influenced animated film backdrops.

It pairs well with Naivasha's boat trips, Nakuru's rhino and birdlife, and the Mara's big-cat country, giving the route a clean progression from geology and water to the bigger drama of the plains.
