Mnemba is a tiny privately leased island within a protected marine area off northeastern Zanzibar. A single intimate retreat, white-sand shoreline and reef reached within minutes create the archipelago's most secluded barefoot stay, focused almost entirely on ocean and privacy.

The island can be circled slowly on foot and holds no village, road or second property. Its appeal lies in restraint: few guests, little artificial light, quiet lagoon days and an uninterrupted relationship with the sea.

The long rains
