Borana walks start at first light, with guests joining the scouts' daily rhino count. At Saruni Rhino, a Saruni guide and a Sera ranger lead. Kenya's rhino national parks keep visitors in the vehicle, so tracking happens on private and community land. Walks last an hour or more; Uganda's Ziwa runs guided walks too.
Ol Pejeta and Lewa hold many rhino but offer drives and guided walks; a tracking walk is rarer.

Timing
Drier in Kenya late June to October and January to February. Saruni Rhino closes 16 March to 31 May and in November (2026). Walks last an hour or more.
Who it suits
Patient walkers with steady legs. Each place sets its own minimum age; Saruni Rhino raised its to 18 for the physical demands. Under-18s can see rhino from an Ol Pejeta vehicle.
Cost
Kenya: part of a camp stay. Saruni Rhino: US$500 to US$700 per person per night, sharing (2026), plus US$175 nightly conservation fees; two-night minimum. Ziwa: US$20 entry plus US$30; confirm for your dates.
Rules
Stay silent; move only on the guide's hand. Your ranger sets the pace and how close you go.

Can you track rhino on foot at Ol Pejeta or Lewa?
Usually not as a dedicated walk. Ol Pejeta sells rhino monitoring and a bush walk (US$70 an adult each); Lewa's camps lead walks. Some agents list tracking at Lewa and Solio, so ask what a camp's walk covers.
How do guides keep a rhino walk safe?
They keep you downwind; you move only on their signal. A rhino can still charge. Saruni Rhino requires proof of emergency-evacuation membership; also check your insurance covers the walk.
Will we find a rhino?
No sighting is promised; wild rhino move as they please; a walk can end with tracks alone.
Where else can you track rhino on foot?
Uganda's Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, where a guide leads visitors to southern white rhino.
