Morning on Paje is kites folding out across pale, ankle-deep water and the smell of coffee drifting off the sand. These best hotels Paje choices are ordered by fit for purpose, not price, and each uses the tier word from our stays data rather than a star rating.
This page chooses a bed within Paje. Whether Paje is the right village at all belongs to Paje or Jambiani; lessons belong to kitesurfing in Paje. Property details come from each hotel's own website, read in October 2026. Two resorts that often come up in Paje searches are listed under other villages: Baraza Resort & Spa in Bwejuu (see hotels in Bwejuu and Michamvi) and The Residence Zanzibar in Kizimkazi.
How to choose
Tide first, then the pool. Paje sits on a shallow east-coast lagoon that retreats hundreds of metres at spring low tides, leaving sand, seagrass and pools where there was sea a few hours earlier. Nobody can promise you a swimming window on a given afternoon, so a hotel pool gives the day another centre. Read how the tides work before you choose. If swimming at every state of the tide is essential, choose another coast: start with hotels with swimmable frontage.
Frontage as published, not as labelled. Our stays data calls every Paje property beachfront, but Paje by Night's own site puts its bungalows inland, with the kite centre on the beach. Request the walk from your actual room to the sand.
Kite school, and the person who stays ashore. White Sand, Dhow Inn and Paje by Night publish kite facilities. Find out where lessons start, where kit is stored and how far the launch is from your room, then make sure the hotel also works for whoever is not riding.
Company or quiet. Mr Kahawa's café and Paje by Night's music evenings favour travellers who like shared evenings; a villa gives personal space but cannot silence a neighbour's party. For dinners out, the restaurant story owns the table; plan a road route back after dark rather than a beach walk.
Children. White Sand and Mr Kahawa both welcome families on their own sites, whatever their adults-leaning reputation. For island-wide comparisons, use the family hotel list or the adults-only hotel list.

Zanzibar White Sand Luxury Villas & Spa
Private Collection · beachfront, Paje · best for villa privacy with kite access
Choose White Sand when the rider wants the lagoon and the rest of the party wants a private villa to come back to. It pairs a Paje beach setting with villa living, main and children's pools and a published kitesurfing offer, and its resort rules welcome guests of all ages. Whether your particular villa has its own pool is the detail that matters, because the resort pools do not show what each villa includes. Official experiences.
Mr Kahawa
Elevated · beachfront, Paje · best for café company beside the sand
Mr Kahawa is the pick for travellers who like to wake up next to the island's coffee and stay for the conversation. Its Paje rooms come in ocean, pool and garden outlooks around a shared pool, with beach access and a café that hosts music. It welcomes families despite an adults-leaning reputation. Be aware that outlook depends on the category, so request the exact room, and choose one away from the café if you sleep lightly. Official Paje accommodation.
Dhow Inn Boutique Hotel
Signature · beachfront, Paje · best for a pool-centred hotel base
Dhow Inn suits travellers who want proper hotel comforts between lagoon sessions: garden pools, private terraces and kite facilities on its beach area. Its premium rooms add a small private pool, which makes it a strong low-tide refuge. The walk from room to sand varies by building, so request the route from the room you are offered. Official hotel information.
Paje by Night Hotel
Signature · beachfront on Nobu's property list; garden bungalows inland, Paje · best for an active garden stay
Paje by Night is the active choice: air-conditioned garden bungalows, a pool, yoga, and live music on Mondays in high season, with its own kite centre on the beach. Its site places the property 70 metres back from the beach, with the kite centre on the beachfront, so treat the beach and your bedroom as two places a short walk apart. If you sleep lightly, ask for a room away from the music. Official setting and facilities.
Cristal Resort Zanzibar
Elevated · beachfront, Paje · best for a choice between bungalow, sea-view room and cabin
Cristal rewards travellers who know exactly how they like to sleep. It has direct beach access and a real choice of formats: sea-view rooms, bungalows and cabins. Ask which categories have air conditioning before you book if cooling matters to you. Official room descriptions.
VRclub Paje Palms Beach Resort
Signature · beachfront on Nobu's property list, Paje · best for a garden veranda room with air conditioning
VRclub Paje Palms is the conventional resort option on this list, for travellers who prefer a resort room to a villa or a café stay. The operator's own room page describes garden rooms with a veranda and air conditioning, plus sea-view categories. Ask for current opening dates and the beach route before you book. Official garden-room description.
Skip it if you want a private villa or a café-style stay, since this is a resort room first.
Right for you if someone in your party kites, or you want café life and company within a short walk of the sand. Not for you if… you want real quiet at night (look at the Jambiani hotel list instead), you must be able to swim at every state of the tide (choose another coast), or you need air conditioning, which is not established for every Cristal room.
If none of these fit
Use the Jambiani hotel list for a slower village farther down the coast, the hotel overview for other purposes, or villa and private-house choices for sole use. The luxury and affordable holiday stories cover the wider brief.
Share the lagoon. Paje's shallows are a workplace as well as a playground: women farm seaweed on lines in the lagoon, and kite schools ride in set zones. Walk around the plots, never across them, and keep your kite well clear. The seaweed story explains the farms.
Planning it with Nobu
Nobu starts with what you want the beach chapter to give you: company, a place to withdraw, or days learning on the water. A travel designer can match that to a Paje base, then check the room, the walk to the sand and the tide for your dates before building the rest of the journey around it.
