Ethiopia park fees and permits

Ethiopia park budgets need more than an entry figure. Simien and Bale publish undated entrance references, while scouts, guides, transport and camping can be separate. Their current application needs confirmation; a visible old tariff is not a confirmed fee for your dates.

Choose the correct visitor category

Nationality, residence and age are distinct. Use the managing authority’s actual definitions and required evidence. A holiday visa or another country’s resident permit does not automatically establish eligibility for the local resident rate.

Student concessions and activity minimum ages are separate from child admission. Where no child amount or age rule is published, obtain confirmation; do not substitute zero or borrow a neighbouring park’s rule.

Separate entry from the rest

  • Entry or conservation: match the visitor category and chargeable period.
  • Vehicles and boats: check registration, capacity, route and unit.
  • Overnight stays: confirm camping, concession, conservancy and accommodation charges separately.
  • Activity permits: check minimum ages, booking conditions and whether ordinary entry or a guide is already included.
  • Taxes and payment charges: use the source’s stated treatment; do not infer a tax percentage from the difference between two amounts.

What do safari park fees include? explains the lines in a quotation. Gorilla and chimpanzee permit costs explains the activity distinction.

Count the applicable charging units

A calendar day, a daytime ticket, a rolling 24-hour period and a cumulative overnight tariff are different units. Use the exact authority rule; do not multiply a base amount where the manager instead publishes a two-night or three-night total.

Staying inside or outside a park explains the questions to ask when comparing accommodation. Family park fees covers age bands and activity eligibility.

Sources and publication periods

Last checked: 20 October 2026. Published references are not a live ticket quotation. Use the stated dates, visitor categories and charging units; confirm the final payable charges for your route.

  • Simien Mountains National Park: park fees. No tariff effective date or expiry stated. Undated published ETB reference. Retrieval in October 2026 and the copyright year do not establish current application. Daily basis is stated on the separate services page; no rolling 24-hour entitlement is inferred.
  • EWCA: Simien Mountains National Park. Official visitor guidance; no tariff effective date stated. Lists a licensed scout as required and links to the park manager. Its entry-permit paragraph repeats seasonal text and is not a payment instruction.
  • Simien Mountains National Park: other service fees. No effective date stated; tariff images use March 2025 upload paths. Park scouts and local guides are mandatory. The page says prices exclude turnover tax but gives no tax rate. Group service prices are distinct from entrance.
  • FCDO Ethiopia regional travel advice. Travel advice at the time of checking; recheck before planning. The Amhara section advises against all travel to the region. This is travel advice, not a park tariff or access confirmation.
  • Bale Mountains National Park: park fees. No tariff effective date or expiry stated. Undated ETB reference published by the EWCA-linked park/FZS website. Current application is unconfirmed; no 2026 effective date is inferred.
  • EWCA: Bale Mountains National Park. Official visitor guidance; no tariff effective date stated. Confirms permits at Dinsho headquarters, arrival registration and recommended guides for trekking.

A few things worth knowing

Good questions.
Straight answers.

The details matter. Bring anything else into your planning conversation.

Are all Ethiopia protected areas covered by one tariff?

Use the exact authority and protected area shown above. Park entry, privately managed conservation areas, activities and accommodation packages can have separate schedules.

Are the directory amounts per person?

The directory labels an adult reference and its source period. Individual guides give the precise unit. Vehicle, group, activity and overnight package charges need their own lines.

Can I use a resident rate during a holiday?

Only when you meet the managing authority’s residency definition and can provide its required evidence. Nationality, residence and a holiday entry visa are different things.

Does a last-checked date establish a current fee?

No. The check date records when the source was inspected. Its publication period and current applicability are stated separately; undated or historical schedules remain identified as such.
