The journey

Coral-stone lanes first, then a night flight and a different island by breakfast.

Two nights in Stone Town, three or four on Zanzibar’s south-east coast, where the tide sets the day, then a hop to Dar es Salaam. The published plan has a 02:30 flight to Mahé for four or five nights; confirm your dates.

This route suits travellers who want both islands and accept a fixed flight day, a short night in Dar and a pre-dawn start. If you need only one island, or want an easy transfer, our Zanzibar or Seychelles guide helps you choose.

Old town, tidal shore, then an ocean crossing by night, with the flights, the rest and every day on your terms.

Good to know

Zanzibar and the Seychelles,
in context.

Mahé, home to the Seychelles’ international airport, lies about 1,810 km from Zanzibar in a straight line, and no airline flies between them non-stop. Between Tanzania and Seychelles, this route uses Air Tanzania’s non-stop from Dar es Salaam, flown since 3 May 2026. Stone Town has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000, and Zanzibar’s east coast drains at low tide. The Seychelles run one hour ahead of Tanzania; times here are local.

Government advice, checked October 2026: the US rates Tanzania, Zanzibar included, Level 3, Reconsider travel (31 October 2025), and the Seychelles Level 1, Exercise normal precautions (9 December 2025). The UK advises against all but essential travel in Tanzania only within 20 km of Mozambique’s Cabo Delgado border, reports armed crime across the country, including Stone Town and popular Zanzibar beaches, and carries no regional warning for the Seychelles. The UK Air Safety List names Tanzania-certified airlines, which are banned from commercial services to, from and within the UK. Read both governments’ pages before travelling.

Malaria risk covers all of Tanzania below 1,800 m, Zanzibar included. Tanzania asks for a yellow fever certificate from travellers arriving from a country on its risk list, Kenya among them, so a Nairobi night on the way back could matter. The Seychelles keeps its own list, and its treatment of a Nairobi connection is unconfirmed. This is general information, not medical advice — consult a travel clinic.

When to go

Pick your moment.
Not just a month.

Plan both islands together: Zanzibar’s rain and tides, Seychelles’ trade winds and the published flight days all shape your dates.

Typically drierLonger rainsMore variable

Jul / Main dry season

Drier days, windier Seychelles seas.

Zanzibar is usually drier, while Seychelles’ southeast trades can roughen the sea, particularly in July and August. Choose the Seychelles coast carefully; island boat transfers remain weather-dependent.

Broad seasonal guidance — not a forecast, availability calendar or migration promise. Picking a month sets it in your plan.
