Operator package reference; government charges to confirm
Chumbe is booked through its conservation operator. Its posted overnight packages combine accommodation, meals, scheduled boats and activities; government charges are additional and the currently payable levy needs confirmation.
Source: Chumbe Island Coral Park (CHICOP); Zanzibar government charges collected separately · checked 20 October 2026. Published references are not a live ticket quotation. Use the stated dates, visitor categories and charging units; confirm the final payable charges for your route.
- Government charges need confirmation: Chumbe’s July 2024 notice lists USD 25 per foreign adult per day, while a September 2025 news report describes a USD 10 non-EAC adult daily fee applying to Chumbe. The underlying Ministry tariff was not verified, so neither amount is treated here as the confirmed current government charge.
- The manager’s 2024 notice uses Tanzanian resident/citizen categories, whereas its accommodation page uses East African resident/citizen categories. Do not assume the categories are interchangeable.
- The posted package amounts are undated operator references, not park-entry charges or guaranteed prices for 2026/27 travel. No package-plus-levy total is presented.
- The historical management-plan day-trip amount is not promoted as a current quote.
Who pays, and for how long
- Book with CHICOP and confirm availability for the intended day or overnight stay. A day-trip option exists, but no current standalone day-trip amount was verified.
- The manager describes guided snorkelling of about one hour, with equipment supplied, and asks guests to follow the UNEP/Green Fins reef code.
Activities, extras and inclusions
| Charge or activity | Published amount | Scope and inclusions |
|---|---|---|
| Current government marine levy | Confirm with the authority | Chumbe’s 2024 operator notice and the reported September 2025 government revision give different amounts. Request the current itemised levy and eligibility category from CHICOP before paying. |
| Overnight infrastructure charge | Confirm with the authority | Separate from the package and marine levy. Confirm the current amount and any exemptions on the operator invoice. |
| Taxi or unscheduled boat transfer | Confirm with the authority | Scheduled return boats are included in the standard package. Taxis and later boats are separate services whose current price needs confirmation. |
Undated overnight package reference — USD per person per night, VAT included
| Package | USD per person per night | What the amount represents |
|---|---|---|
| Garden bungalow | 280 | Overnight package; additional government charges excluded |
| Seaview bungalow | 340 | Overnight package; additional government charges excluded |
| Seafront bungalow | 360 | Overnight package; additional government charges excluded |
How to arrange payment
- Request an itemised invoice directly from CHICOP through its official booking contact. The manager says it collects the Blue Economy Levy and remits it to the Ministry of Blue Economy and Fisheries.
- No government ticket checkout was verified. On-island drinks/merchandise payment guidance is not evidence of the payment method for a government permit.
Build it into your route
The posted overnight package includes the bungalow, full-board meals, scheduled return boats, activities, activity equipment, snacks, soft drinks, tea and coffee, conservation/education contributions and VAT.
Alcohol, taxi transport, unscheduled transfers and separate government charges are outside the posted package. Confirm each line for the actual booking.
The accommodation page publishes a 50% reduction for children aged 2–12 and a 10% low-season reduction. It supplies no low-season dates or under-two rule; ask the operator.
Explore Zanzibar. Compare Zanzibar park fees and the wider safari budget. Your written proposal confirms the actual inclusions.
