The stay
A community-owned Laikipia lodge with six individual rooms, waterhole and valley views, a swimming pool and guided conservancy activities. Il Ngwesi offers a distinctly open safari setting.
Il Ngwesi Lodge is a community-owned safari lodge on the edge of the Mararoi Hills in Laikipia. Its open-sided rooms look into the surrounding landscape, with a waterhole and valley forming much of the view. The main house and swimming pool provide shared places to pause between guided outings.
Six individually named bandas and rooms offer different settings rather than a uniform hotel layout. Some overlook the waterhole, while others face the valley. Two rooms connect by a swinging bridge, and star-bed arrangements are advertised in Banda One and Room Five.
The public package includes full-board meals, selected soft drinks, shared game drives and guided walks within the conservancy. Cultural visits, bush breakfasts and sundowners are also described, with alcoholic drinks charged separately. We would consider Il Ngwesi for travellers interested in a small community-based lodge and an open connection to the bush. Its hillside setting, bridge and exposed room design need a careful suitability discussion.
