Hippo Trails combines ten regular and two family tents near Retima Hippo Pool, with solar power, en-suite bathrooms and river-facing verandas. Full-board dining and communal Wi-Fi support a traditional Serengeti stay.
Hippo Trails Camp offers a classic canvas stay on the slopes around Banagi Hill, near the Retima Hippo Pool in the central Serengeti. Its river outlook and raised tents give the stay a different feel from a conventional lodge.
King or twin beds, wooden floors, writing desks and sitting areas provide a straightforward level of comfort, with safari chairs outside on the veranda. Private bathrooms have flushing toilets and running hot and cold water. Solar systems supply electricity and hot water, while Wi-Fi is concentrated around the communal spaces.
A linked lounge and dining area accommodates meals, drinks and time between drives. Full board is advertised, with picnic lunches available for days away from camp and dietary needs accommodated by advance arrangement. Tea and coffee are available throughout the day. The operator specifically says it does not offer laundry because of limited water supplies, a useful detail for packing and itinerary planning.
